The Vanguard most resemble good ol' American (or Dutch or whatever other country resonates with you) humanity, but are essentially militaristic warlords. Then if you look at the races, they are all shades of black to grey, with little white. I'd argue that there's something sinister about the alien nature of the Celestians, who seem closest to an ethical secret tech. Since every commander has a secret tech, that pretty much immediately makes them seem all evil. To be fair, I also haven't played the campaign in Planetfall, but you tell me if there's any "good guys," I have a bit of a hard time believing.Īll of the secret techs in Planetfall have some kind of terrifying implication. I admit I haven't played the campaign of Age of Wonders 3. Shadow Magic is about rooting against the Shadow Demons and the evil humans who persecute magic. There were also plenty of neutral races that were portrayed as essentially noble and just, if savage.Īge of Wonders 2 is about Merlin, and we are rooting for Merlin. So who are you actually supposed to root for? When I played Age of Wonders, you were probably meant to be rooting for Julia, the (wood) Elves and the Keepers.
